Inevitable, but sad none the less.

Torpor 2011-05-12

Let the dead rest until they are needed again. It is no use to deny it any longer. I have to put Vampires Suck on indefinite hold for now. There's a number of reasons why, and I'll try to sum them up fairly quickly.

One thing is the internet as a medium in itself. You've seen me contemplate in earlier commentaries how the need for proper updates and a fair amount of content each update makes longer storylines challenging. After my first creative breakdown, I started the Chronicles of coffee and cigarettes, adjusting focus from the setting to those who (ab)use it. These were short gags presented as strips. But I don't want to make strips. Or gags for that matter. At least not now.

VS evolved into something I find much more interesting creating — a story. Some of you, who play any edition of WoD, realise this as well. It's not about how shitty or badass your character is in a game mechanic balance perspective. It is the drama that inevitably will surface because everything you touch will turn to shit. Life's still a fucking joke, but everyone doesn't get it, and others don't find it particularly funny.

Continuing on what has been done is troublesome. I could start making proper 'zines altogether out of VS, but there's simply too much backstory only available online. And then there's my conscious decision to direct VS to those already familiar with the Masquerade-setting. A proper shift in medium would require a full re-boot, and probably to drop the universe by White Wolf altogether.

But I assure you that the vampires have not returned into the shadows forever. They are always present, and the great resource material for classical Victorian horror can be applied within a multitude of settings. But VS as it is and has been, will not be for quite a while. I am deeply indebted to you all for giving me these 4 years.

Thank you so much,
I love you.

THE PUBLICUM SPEAKS OUT

i'm sad to hear that but i'm sure you have your reasons, i hope your feeling better than you were at the posting of last comic.

Lelle2011-05-12 17:11:28

Kommer sakna VS.... pöss på digbubben

Viking2011-05-12 19:33:22

Tråkigt att höra. Hoppas på en fortsättning!

Benjamín2011-05-12 22:58:51

Thank you for the many comics you created and shared with us. I'll miss you.

Garou2011-05-13 09:23:17

We will all miss you. I am very sad to hear that there won't be anymore VS or Coffee, for now. But you do whatever you have to do. Take care, good man. And may the muses smile apon you.

Claudia Vonigner2011-05-13 13:00:09

Seriously ? Aw, come on, more facepalms of destructions, please ! Although both Requiem and Masquerade hold a place in my dead heart, I love it in here :-( But oh well, everything must rest, sometimes. If ever... Take care, until next time !

Niklas2011-05-13 13:57:55

Jag får börja gå mer regelbundet på blodcentralen nu istället. (:-(

Corinna Ansons2011-05-13 14:01:16

Do take your time. I can only speak concerning art, and there only concerning writing, but I know that when the inspiration is gone, when the desire to continue is gone, there will ultimately be a halt. Striving to go around this 'blockage' only makes things worse. Take your time, and, when you feel like coming back, do so. It may take a long, long while - and you shouldn't suffer from regrets in that while - but the time will come when you say to yourself, 'I miss VS'. Then, and only then, should you give us the gift of more pages. I wish you good luck with whatever you decide to touch ... I'll be here when you decide to come back. Until then, take care.

Claudia Vonigner2011-05-13 14:25:17

Corinna, I think Lyle would kill us if he spotted us right here \o/ (He's infecting us with the geek virus omfg) As Corinna said, until you feel like it, either way we thank you from the bottom of our dead hearts \o/

I am sad. On another note, I would absolutely buy, yes, pay money for, published versions of VS. Especially if the older pencil sketches were updated to your new style for it. You could release several 'manga style' books and be able to focus on longer plots that take several pages to illustrate, without a weekly deadline. Think about it and good luck in the future.

Also, for everyone... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8VfdaY8xNs

It's been a joy watching your art styles and storytelling evolve over the past few years and seeing the World of Darkness through your eyes. But if the inspiration is gone or you feel like you can't do what you want with your stories then it's time to end. From the fans of VS, Thank You for four and a half years of amazing work. We all love you too

Grove2011-05-15 00:19:07

Your work is one of the largest sources of inspiration for my love to the wod. I hope you feel more motivated to continue soon, as I have watched you develop over the recent years I feel really enthusiastic to see more from you :) Godspeed, my fellow kinsman. Ta hand om dig!

dennishonderd2011-05-16 18:41:40

so sorry to see this message and comic, loved the old comics and not much a fan of the new, but it had its moments. Good luck with everything else, hopefully see you and your comics back soon.

Jonathan Marshall2011-05-16 22:22:00

So sorry to hear this... But thank you for everything you gave us nonetheless...

Alice D.2011-05-17 03:27:32

No sir, thank you! Thank you, for sharing this amazing story with us! Do what you must, and know that you will be missed.

Unknown2011-05-18 13:27:25

Just stick to your own pace and do your own thing. If you decide not to pick this up again, then I'd like to say, Thanks for a good read!

I had first found your line from a link provided to me by someone else a /long/ time ago. It was during my first time of being introduced into the WoD setting (oWoD mind), and was played on a MU*. Granted, I was hooked, and loved seeing each issues that I turned around and shared with others. I found the stories deep and weaving and very, /very/ WoD heavy. I also found them hilarious; hilarious and all of them true. This is where I tell you how awesome you are and how you inspired me to create my own graphic series, and it's true. Your work is very inspiring and I can only hope to be as awesome. I hope to see some of your newest work soon and wish you the best of luck with whatever is going on in your life presently. Thank you for the laughs, drama, and inspiration.

Jag älskar World of darkness och jag gillade dina små fun facts i serien. Jag vill tacka för en så bra serie. Jag kommer sakna den och jag hoppas att den dyker upp igen.

Only recently found this comic, so just wanted to say thank you and let you know that VampiresSuck had five of us (all VTM players) crowded around my laptop, occasionally giggling our arses off. A few of us are artists, so we understand, but thought it might be nice to let you know that your archive is still making many, many VTM players giggle. "Don't look the Ventrue primogen in the eyes" has become a trope at our weekly VTM LRP game and the facepalm of destruction has become a subject of whispered IC ridicule directed at a certain Tremere Archon. The comic is starting to do the rounds through our 20+ playerbase and everyone loves it. So, simply, thank you for all your wonderful work. We all hope some day the muse comes back to you, but if it's time to move on - we wish you all the best in all your future endeavours. Thank you for VampiresSuck :)

Lingon2012-01-20 12:30:06

Saknar diiiiiiig o serierna :O

Insane_Prophet2012-03-27 10:28:09

It's great to still have the archives here. What I love about Vampires Suck is that you've managed to capture both the *feel* of the World of Darkness (and Vampire: the Masquerade in particular), but also inject a healthy dose of humour and parody without cheapening the material. It's sad to see VS fall into torpor, but it's perfectly understandable. Many a WoD chronicle has gone that way itself, only to perhaps rise again at a later date. But for all the enjoyment I and my coterie have gotten out of VS, I want to say thank you.

Mc Manus2012-03-29 17:11:12

Hey champ. Me and my friends found VS yesterday and we sad up all night to read it all!! We love it, its the most awesome comic ever!!! We are so sorry to hear about the end or break of it, but hope that you will return again some day. with all the best wishes - the Irish crew

Salem2012-05-10 07:55:19

Its been almost year off by 2 days

MacKenzee2012-06-05 03:48:08

I found this a month ago, and I'm so sad you haven't started it back up again since your hiatus. Oh, well! I'll be patient!

Emil2012-08-01 00:53:28

Even now, over one year since the comic was put on a hiatus, reading it over and over again gives me as much joy now as when I read the first post 5 years ago. Thanks for all the years Linus! Hope you are feeling well now.

Beau2012-11-01 05:55:59

From an old Toreador; inspiration fades over time so we find a cute new ghoul to inspire us to go on. Humanity, is our secret joy and our pain, we would sooner cut off our hands than lose that last fleeting thread. Never give up on them, and they will never give up on you.

Why not..2013-01-11 07:52:38

Awwwwwwwwww :( this makes me sader :( How about teaching Abel how to knit...then lucious can stab him with the knitting needles :D

Sharky2013-08-05 18:55:25

I just found this place through a friend who liked it, looks like I'm also late to the party, very good stuff here though, definitely a fan.

Astroturf-Boy2013-10-01 12:08:06

I've been following the comic since its conception, and it has inspired me toward running VtM games more so than any other product (with the possible exception of Bloodlines). It's an amazing anthology, and I am - and have always been - sad to see it come to an end. But we support you, and thank you for what you've given us. One day, maybe, we'll see more fantastic work from you; but until that day, just know that we're ever thankful.

Omnia2014-04-17 13:39:52

Hi, just found this comic, read it whole in a couple of hours, I must say that I really enjoy it, I love how it mixes comedy with drama. Hope you're doing great and who knows, maybe we will one day find out what happened to Abel. Take care of yourself, and I hope your life is kickass!

Saint2014-05-04 18:17:38

Funny that this comment is so soon, relatively, after the last one. Just discovered this and read through, and it was an absolute delight. I'm deeply envious of your artistic and storytelling ability, and hope that, wherever you are or whether this comic ever rises from its grave, you are doing well. Many of us out here share similar struggles. What you feel is valid, but you're not alone.

Gio2014-08-27 07:04:59

Great comic. Just discovered it and had an entertaining time reading it. Hope you're doing well in whatever you're doing now! Peace!

Ragnar2015-02-05 14:12:59

Still checking in here once in a while. Miss your comics and I wonder where the story would have gone.
